Leak Repair

A homeowner calls about a leak when they spot a dripping faucet, a wet spot on the ceiling, or a musty smell that won't go away. Sometimes the water bill spikes for no reason. The situation is urgent because water can damage floors, cabinets, and drywall fast. You need someone to find the exact source and stop the waste before it gets worse.

We start by shutting off the water to the affected area. For visible leaks, we disassemble the fixture and replace worn washers, O-rings, or cartridge seals. For hidden leaks, we use a moisture meter and sometimes a borescope to locate the pipe break. We cut out the damaged section, solder or press-fit a new copper or PEX piece, then pressure-test the repair. Afterward, we dry the area and apply a primer and patch if drywall was opened.

What makes each leak repair different is the access. A leak behind a shower wall means cutting through tile, which takes more care and time than a leak under a sink. The pipe material matters: copper requires soldering, while PEX uses crimp rings. The extent of water damage also affects the job—soaked insulation or rotted subflooring must be removed and replaced before we close everything up. These factors drive how long the work takes and what it costs.

On the day of the repair, we lay down drop cloths to protect floors and furniture. We work carefully to keep dust and debris contained. After the fix, we clean up all scraps, drywall dust, and packaging. Before we arrive, you should clear the area under the sink or around the leak. After we leave, run the water for a few minutes to confirm the repair holds, and watch for any new dampness over the next 24 hours.
